Calonge wants to become the first Catalan Book Town (booktown). It is looking for 7 booksellers to run 7 premises in the historic center.
The Town Council of Calonge and Sant Antoni is providing 10,000 euros and tax incentives to 7 entrepreneurs willing to open bookstores in the town’s historic center. In addition, the Town Council is offering 7 premises to house the bookstores in the historic core of Calonge. The aim is to turn Calonge into the first Book Town (booktown) in Catalonia in order to revitalize the town’s socio-economic and cultural activity.
Calonge is located in a privileged setting between the sea and the mountains. In summer, it has a potential reading audience. It is also a municipality awarded the Family Tourism Destination seal by the Catalan Tourism Agency, a distinction that aligns with the tourism positioning this booktown proposal would bring.
All the elements have been taken into account when developing this project to become a booktown; a town where books and culture are a social and economic brand and driving force.
